Largely inspired by colours and patterns in the every day, Jo’s creations aim to bring about good vibes and playful times. Without colours, her work would just be practical pieces, without any feelings or personality.
The constant need to create with her hands results in a range of products—from clay necklaces, to sticker illustrations, and even miniature pottery wares. She also conducts polymer clay workshops in her home studio for fellow clay and colour enthusiasts.
Jo started officially working under the moniker Average Jo in 2014, where she hand made necklaces using polymer clay as self-taught artist. Over the years, she has moved to different mediums that inspire her. Today, she settles with ceramics—a medium that she first started in school when she was 10. Revisiting ceramics brings back memories and the familiarity of digging her nails into the earth, creating products that can last a few lifetimes. Since, she has created homewares of regular and miniature sizes, largely still exploring and learning this limitless craft.
She has collaborated with brands like Naiise, Rockstar, Fictive Fingers and Uniqlo Singapore, while carrying out public workshops with The Letter J Supply, Itchy Fingers and IKI Makers Union. Since then, Average Jo has also expanded to carry out private workshops, such as hens party and company cohesions.
As a strong advocate of collaborations, Jo is always open to new ideas and more importantly, creating new friendships! Write in if you would like to chat ;)
